The UN humanitarian chief said the crisis was triggered by scarce and erratic rainfall in 2017, "resulting in water, crop and pasture shortages and livestock losses."
The preliminary findings in three of these districts — Pune, Nandurbar and Raigad — show that percentage of wasting and of under-nutrition is higher than as recorded by the NFHS-4 and the Integrated Child Development System (ICDS).

According to a new report submitted by the World Bank Group and UNICEF, India is home to over 30 percent of almost 385 million children living in extreme poverty. It is the highest percentage rate in South Asia.
"The youngest children are the most at risk with more than 1/5th of children under the age of five in the developing world living in extremely poor households." says the report.
Statistics shows the percentage of children aged 0-17 living in poverty in selected OECD countries. Children who fail to meet the minimum acceptable standard of living for the nation are said to be poor. Denmark has the lowest level of child poverty worldwide with the rate 9 times lower than in Israel and Turkey.
