Kollam (Kerala), April 12 : Authorities here on Tuesday began taking steps to conduct DNA tests on unclaimed bodies as 21 people remained missing after the temple fire tragedy that killed 110 people.
Officials said the health department had told the family members of those missing to reach Kollam on Wednesday.
Kollam (Kerala), April 10 : At least 110 devotees were killed and over 350 injured when an illegal fireworks show set off massive explosions and caused a huge blaze in a Hindu temple in Kerala before dawn on Sunday in what Prime Minister Narendra Modi said was a "dreadful tragedy".
Many of those warded in hospitals were in critical condition. Modi, who visited the disaster-hit Puttingal Devi temple in Peravur town here, suggested that they could be flown to Mumbai or New Delhi for treatment.
Kollam (Kerala), April 10 : Spiritual guru Mata Amritanandamayi on Sunday sought a ban on the use of firecrackers at temple festivals after a fire tragedy in a Kerala temple left over 100 people dead.
"Every year we hear at least one such firecracker tragedy," she said in a statement.
Chennai, April 10 : Tamil Nadu Governor K.Rosaiah, Chief Minister J.Jayalalithaa and other leaders on Sunday expressed their shock over the death of around 110 people in the Kerala temple blaze and extended their condolences.
In a letter to Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, the text of which was released to the media, Rosaiah said: "I am deeply shocked and grieved to hear about the major fire accident at a temple in Peravur, Kollam district, Kerala in which many have lost their lives and several others have been injured."
