Heavy rainfall will continue in Tamil Nadu and Kerala over the next 48 hours, said the weather department. Rainfall began after a deep depression formed in the Bay of Bengal. The system is currently 70 km east of Chennai and is moving north towards the coastal Andhra.
Rainfall is also predicted over south coastal and interior Tamil Nadu durning the next 24 hours. Similarly, heavy rainfall is predicted over south Andhra Pradesh coast during the next 48 hours.
53% excess rains in TN in 2015
Tamilnadu, which usually receives around 79 cm of rainfall, witnessed 160cm this year. This adds up to 53% above normal. The heavy rains that wreaked havoc over coastal Tamilnadu were caused by the slow movement of weaker systems over Bay of Bengal, the weather office said.
