Voters began queueing on Saturday to cast their ballots in 49 constituencies of Uttar Pradesh and 38 constituencies of Manipur in the crucial assembly elections.

The Supreme Court on Friday ordered the Uttar Pradesh police to lodge a First Information Report (FIR)against State Minister and Samajwadi Party leader Gayatri Prajapati in connection with cases of alleged gang rape and sexual harassment.
A Bench led by Justice A.K. Sikri directed the police to inquire and file an action taken report in eight weeks in a sealed cover.
The direction came on a PIL petition filed by a woman who has alleged repeated gang rape by Mr. Prajapati and others and has sought the court’s direction for lodging an FIR.

Etah, Uttar Pradesh: Almost 24 students, a driver was killed and several were injured as a school bus was hit by a truck on Thursday in Etah district. The fatal accident occurred in Aliganj in Etah early in the morning.
The bus was ferrying students to Aliganj's JS Public School in Etah. Thirty six among the 50 injured are stated to be critical, sources said.
Lucknow: In one of the worst train accidents in the country, at least 120 people were killed and almost 200 injured, after the 14 coaches of the Indore-Patna Express derailed near Kanpur in Uttar Pradesh on Sunday morning.
The tragedy happened when the Patna-bound train rolled off track after 3 am near Pukhrayan station, 60 km from Kanpur, badly damaging four ordinary sleeper coaches in which hundreds were trapped.
