An Egyptian passenger plane that took off from Alexandria asked permission to land at Larnaca airport in Cyprus amid suspicions of a hijack.
The pilot of the EgyptAir Airbus 320 asked permission to land at Larnaca airport claiming a hijack while the plane was over Cyprus.
The aircraft took off from the Alexandria airport around 8 am heading for Cairo with 81 people on board. The pilot requested permission to land at Larnaca airport, citing a hijacking which happened around 8:50.
A crisis team rushed to the airport to deal with the situation and the necessary consultations but the hijackers have not submitted any request so far.
