Zika Virus Scares Rio Olympics Journalists Athelets Are Backing Out

Athletes and journalists have expressed concern about traveling to the Zika affected Brazil to compete in Rio Olympics. Now journalists are opting out entirely. Several NBC employees are not willing to travel to Brazil to cover the games. Brazil is the country hardly-hit by the mosquito-borne virus ZIKA, which can cause severe birth defects, including babies born with abnormally small heads.

NBC is sending more than 2,000 employees to Brazil to cover the Olympics, which take place Aug. 5-21. The company said no one will be required to travel if they believe their health would be at risk. Several employees have already told NBC that they will not go to Rio.
